SUNRISE SERIES

The Sunrise Series runs 3, 4-week long tennis classes, catered to Vancouverite working professionals, to learn or develop their tennis skills before heading to work. 
Each class is a 1 hour session. There are 8 classes per series excluding and Wednesday, which is 4 classes.
Classes are taught using a game based approach to ensure progression, seeing immediate improvement in your game. The levels test your groundstrokes, serve & return, net play and footwork – keeping you well-rounded and ready to play with friends or your next tournament. Levels are beginner, improver & intermediate/ advanced – details below.

Learning Outcomes

 

Beginner –  Advanced Beginner – Rating 1.0 to 2.0

 

Groundstrokes

Introduction and development of important groundstroke fundamentals: grips, racket preparation, contact point, and hitting zone.

Serve & Return

Introduction and development of a throwing action serve. Key focus points: positioning, ball toss, swing path, contact point and consistency.

Net Play

Introduction and development of ‘feel’. key focus points: grip, contact point and hitting zone.

Footwork

Introduction and development of split step, effective footwork, set up positioning and balance.

 

Improver  – Rating 2.0 to 3.0

 

Groundstrokes

Continuous development of important groundstroke fundamentals and ironing out bad habits. Key focus points: racket preparation, contact point, and hitting zone.

Serve & Return

Continuous development of a throwing action and introduction of pronation. Key focus points: positioning, ball toss, swing path, contact point and consistency.

Net Play

Introduction and/or continuous development of ‘feel’. key focus points: grip, contact point and hitting zone.

Footwork

Introduction and/or development of split step, effective footwork, set up positioning and balance.

 

Advanced  – Rating 3.0+

 

Groundstrokes

Developing players weapons to dominate in a point situation. Able to change the pace of a rally in a point situation.

Serve & Return

Correcting grips and working towards stats of 50%+ first serve, 70%+ second serve. Introducing the kick serve.

Net Play

Continuous development of ‘feel’, becoming more comfortable and confident at the net under a variety of different playing situations.

Footwork

Split steps in preparation for every shot. Strong athletic position. Create an understanding of advanced footwork patterns and integrating them into practice.
